Grinnell Sweeps Knox in Season Opener

GRINNELL, Iowa — August 29, 2025

Grinnell College opened the 2025 women’s volleyball season with a 3–0 win over Knox College at Darby Gymnasium. The Pioneers won by set scores of 25–12, 25–10, and 25–10.

Team Statistics

Grinnell hit .392 as a team, recording 57 kills with 18 errors on 79 total attempts. Knox finished with a .043 hitting percentage, collecting 16 kills and 14 errors on 70 attempts. Grinnell also had two team blocks, while Knox had one.

The Pioneers held a strong edge in serve reception with a .919 rate compared to .818 for the Prairie Fire. Grinnell recorded 39 digs in the match, while Knox tallied 27.

Individual Performances

For Grinnell, Hayley Taka led the attack with 12 kills on a .706 hitting percentage. Kinsey Carrigan added 13 kills on .455 hitting, while Nicole Mlynski finished with six kills on .267 hitting. Leticia Machado totaled 10 kills and Kylie Snell contributed six kills on .462 hitting.

For Knox, Maria Jabor Jahn paced the team with five kills, while Lydia Karli had six kills with an .833 hitting percentage. Elle Haddon added six kills, and Zoe Thunhurst finished with four digs.

Match Notes

The match lasted 1 hour and 1 minute and was played in front of 150 spectators. Officials for the match were Charles Chase and Julie Fortin.
