Grinnell Rolls to 69-29 Victory over Oskaloosa Girls
by Doug DeKock
Oskaloosa traveled to Grinnell Friday night and found out why Grinnell was ranked #5 in class 4A. The Indians hung with the Tigers in the 1st quarter trailing 16-8 after one quarter. The 2nd quarter was similar to the 1st quarter as Osky was outscored 15-9 in the quarter and trailed by a respectable 31-17 at the half. Grinnell had played a sloppy 1st half and their coach was not happy going into the locker room. Oskaloosa meanwhile had improved their offensive play in the 2nd quarter and felt “ok” about the game at this point. Grinnell came out in the 3rd quarter a completely different team, a team that looked deserving of their #5 ranking. The Tigers went away from their full court man press and went to a full court zone press which rattled Oskaloosa into numerous turnovers. Grinnell started to stretch the lead with points off of turnovers and ran away to the 69-29 win.
Oskaloosa was led by Alexis Westercamp who scored 14 points. Shalandra Shilling was next in line with 5 points while Summer Smith and Marleigh Denburger each scored 4 points for Osky. The Indians will be off until they face another ranked foe in DCG Friday in Oskaloosa. Tip is set for 6:15 with the boy’s game to follow.
