Green, Taylor, and 4×8 Highlight Cornell Weekend

William Penn University Athletics

Mount Vernon–A pair of school marks and a meet record were all set as the William Penn track and field teams competed at the Hilltop Invitational hosted by Cornell Friday and Saturday.

Sam Taylor (Fr., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) was joined by his squad’s 4×800-meter relay squad as school record-setters.

Taylor placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.57 seconds, eclipsing the previous record of 8.59 seconds set by Jeff Blanchard in 1989.

The William Penn 4×8 squad’s fifth-place finish at 8:31.25 demolished the old time of 9:32.10 from 2009.

Gabriel Green (Jr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) also had a big day, winning both the 60 and 200-meter dashes. The junior took the fast race in 6.93 seconds, while his time of 22.01 seconds was not only NAIA automatic-qualifying but also a meet record.

Green is now ranked fifth in the NAIA in the 200.

Jalen Wilson (Fr., Desoto, Texas, Duncanville HS) was a champion as well, claiming first in the long jump at 22-0.25.

Armond Thigpen (Fr., Park Forest, Ill., Thornton Township HS) joined Green with a pair of high placings in the sprints, taking fifth in the 200 (23.40 seconds) and seventh in the 60 (7.20 seconds).

The Statesmen 4×4 relay earned bronze with a time of 3:34.44, while Trevor Volz (Fr., Adel, ADM HS) was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95 seconds.

Sixth-place finishes went to Wilson in the 200-meter dash (23.51 seconds) and Dexter Jordan (So., St. Louis, Mo., Forrest Park CC) in the 400-meter dash (52.45 seconds).

Terrance Conway (So., Los Angeles, Calif., West Los Angeles CC), with a time of 23.61 seconds in the 200, Josh Roudabush (Sr., Brooklyn, BGM HS), with a time of 52.55 seconds in the 400, and Van Love-Scott (Fr., Detroit, Mich., Highland Park HS), with a long jump of 19-2.5, were all seventh over the weekend.
