Georgene Estella Koeppen, 81, of Oskaloosa passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa under hospice care surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 9, 1940, at home in Elkhart, Iowa, the daughter of Royce and Mary (Schlenker) Martin.

Georgene attended school in Elkhart and later graduated from Southeast Polk High School with the class of 1957.

On February 4, 1961, she was united in marriage to John Koeppen in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union six children were born, Sandra, Warren, Nancy, David, Diane and Brenda.

Early on, Georgene lived on a farm and helped with the chores and farm work. After her marriage to John, she stayed at home to care for and raise her family.

She was an active and devoted member of the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oskaloosa. Her deepest happiness came from her relationship with her Creator, Jehovah God.

Georgene enjoyed devoting her time to bible study, her ministry and sharing spiritual conversations with others. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Koeppen of Oskaloosa; her children: Sandra (& Kevin) Van Baalen of Guthrie Center, IA., Nancy (& Jeff) Beal of Oskaloosa, David (& Jennie) Koeppen of Port Orange, FL., Diane (& Patrick) Baughman of Oskaloosa and Brenda (& Fortunato) Siciliano of Des Moines; ten grandchildren: Erin (& Arthur) Smith, Meghan Werts, Rachel (& Dean) Browning, Austin (& Allison) Koeppen, Zachary Koeppen, Alexa Stuehmer, Kayla Koeppen, Kennedy Koeppen, Nathan Baughman and Elizabeth Baughman; two great grandchildren, Nora and Emmett Browning, and baby girl Koeppen, on the way. She is also survived by a brother, Dennis (Debbie) Martin.

Georgene is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Warren Koeppen; a granddaughter, Charlotte Rose Baughman; and her siblings: Edward Martin, Rose Mullins and Richard Martin.

As was Georgene’s wish, her body will be cremated, and a private family service will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements
