George, Batu-Tiako Garner Statesmen of the Week Honors

Oskaloosa–Baseball player Nick George (So., Sarnia, Ontario) and women’s track and field athlete Abigaille Batu-Tiako (So., Plattsburgh, N.Y.) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of April 4-11, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

George tallied six hits, six RBI, and five runs scored at the plate, and a complete game on the mound. He racked up four hits across the final two contests against the Grand View Vikings on Monday, including a four-RBI performance in an 8-5 victory. On Saturday, he threw a complete game against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats, allowing only two earned runs. He allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out five, then rounded out his week with an RBI in each of William Penn’s two victories on Sunday.

Batu-Tiako turned in a pair of first-place efforts at the Central Invitational on Saturday. She placed first in the long-jump with a mark of 16-10, then took gold in the triple jump at 33-4.5. She accounted for two of William Penn’s five first-place finishes.

Located in Oskaloosa’s Penn Central Mall, Gardner-Collier Jewelry is your hometown jeweler and can help you celebrate any special occasion.
