Gallagher’s Top Ten Headlines William Penn Effort at Doane

Crete, Neb.–Fresh off an open week, The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen harriers got back to business Saturday by competing in the Dean White Invitational hosted by Doane College.

The men tied for fourth place out of six teams with 118 points, while host Doane won the title with 27 point. Three of the top five finishers were from Doane. The William Penn women did not field a full team as Doane completed the sweep with 29 points.

Doane’s Jake Kment was the top collegiate male finisher (winner was a Doane alum) with an 8K-time of 26:48.12. Sarah Williams of Peru State (Neb.) was the first woman to break the tape with a 5K-time of 18:55.48.

For the third event in a row, Yanni Gallaher (Fr., Kanab, Utah, Psychology) led the Statesmen by placing tenth out of 55 runners with a time of 27:31.81.

Deane Wichelt (So., Durant, Iowa, Industrial Technology) was next, placing 24th in a time of 28:30.37, while Blake Washington (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Public Accounting) and Nick Thomas (So., Salmon, Idaho, Physical Education) each broke the half-hour barrier as well. Washington was 36th at 29:27.18 and Thomas was right behind him in 37th at 29:30.29.

Quintin Marshall (Jr., St. Louis, Mo., Computer Science), in 46th (30:53.52), and Stepfon Williams (Fr., St. Louis, Mo., Industrial Technology), in 48th (31:47.01), rounded out the navy and gold lineup.

Valinn McReynolds (Grad., Bellville, Texas, Master’s of Business Leadership) guided the Lady Statesmen, placing 15th (out of 63 runners) at 20:36.28.

Sade Myers (So., Honolulu, Hawaii, Elementary Education) was next in 40th place at 22:48.26, while Rosemary Bailey (Jr., Fayetteville, Ark., Undecided) rounded out the trio in 49th at 23:19.75.

Next: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Davenport on October 6 to compete in the St. Ambrose Invitational. The meet will serve as a preview tournament as the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships will be held on the same course in November.
