Fred died Tuesday morning at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa. As was his wish, his body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Frederick Gene Roberts, son of Harry and Reva (Allee) Roberts was born August 5, 1933 in Taintor, Iowa. He spent his early years in Taintor and moved to Oskaloosa as a young man. Over the years he worked for Firestone Tire Company, Binns and Stevens, Ace Hardware, McGregor’s Furniture, William Penn College in maintenance, and was most recently employed by National Management in Pella, where he did maintenance for area apartment buildings. He retired in 2000. December 31, 1997, Fred married Catherine Louise Reeves in Oskaloosa. They most recently lived in Leighton. Fred enjoyed fishing and vegetable gardening.

His family includes his wife, Cathy of Leighton; a daughter, Diane (Randy) Mick of Oskaloosa; two sons: Derek (Carleigh) Roberts of Ottumwa and Duane Roberts of Rose Hill; two step-sons: Jason Dunfee of Searsboro and Michael (Alaynna) Dunfee of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren: Sheena (Dustin) Clark, Dustin (Mescha) Hargrave, Vince Hargrave, Mason Roberts, Ian Roberts, Wade Roberts and Hank Roberts; two great grandchildren: Jacob and Bethany Hargrave; six step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; and a sister, Henrietta Hols of Newton, Iowa.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a son, Delbert G. Roberts, a brother, Donald Roberts and two sisters: Phyllis Christ and Mary Jane Davis.

Memorials may be made in his name.
