Four Garner Recognition from Heart

Oskaloosa–Four members of the William Penn baseball team were honored for their play on the diamond this spring as the 2025 all-Heart of America Athletic Conference teams were announced Friday.

Bradley Soto (Jr., Davenport, Fla., Business Management) was chosen as one of 17 members of the second team, while Abel Madueno (Sr., San Bernardino, Calif., Business Management) and Keoni Young (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev., Exercise Science) were part of the 22-person honorable-mention squad. An additional 17 players collected first-team recognition.

Madueno is now a two-time all-Heart recipient (first team in 2024), while Soto and Young are first-time winners.

The trio helped WPU to a 16-28 record in 2025.

Soto, who was tabbed as an outfielder, led the navy and gold in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.385), hits (57), home runs (17), RBIs (42), and runs (48). He also posted a .791 slugging percentage and a .459 on-base clip that included 20 walks and one hit-by-pitch. Additionally, the junior stole six bases.

He managed 18 multi-base hit performances with several three-hit outings, and had an 11-game hitting streak at one point. He produced a pair of multi-home run games en route to tying the school record for single-season homers.

Madueno was WPU’s staff ace, going 5-4 with a 6.40 Earned Run Average in 70 1/3 innings on the mound. He tallied five complete games and one save, while striking out 80 and walking just 23.

The senior struck out at least five batters in 10 different contests (high of 12 twice).

Young, a third baseman for William Penn, owned a .333 batting average with 35 hits, six home runs, 23 RBIs, and 30 runs scored. He managed a .533 slugging mark and a .450 on-base clip that featured 18 walks and six hit-by-pitches (he struck out only 16 times).

The junior finished the campaign with five multi-hit games (high of four).

Zach Otten (Sr., Mapleton, Ill., Business Management) also picked up his second Heart Gold Glove award. In 54 chances this season, the left fielder notched 52 putouts and two assists, while not committing an error for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Brock Rinehart of Grand View was selected as the Heart Player of the Year, while his teammates Kaleb Krier (Pitcher) and Evan Borst (Newcomer) also won top awards. Drew Terpins of Mount Mercy earned the Freshman of the Year laurel.

Grand View’s Doug Brinker was named Heart Coach of the Year by his peers, and Jim Hallman–also of GVU–claimed the Assistant Coach of the Year award.
