Football Season Set To Begin Tonight With ‘Old Shoe’ Game

Directions to the stadium: Take Highway 432 to the roundabout, go north on Orchard, then north on Santa Clara, and west on 238 Street.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Fall football season kicks off at the stadium at the Lacey Recreational Complex tonight with the Oskaloosa Indian Old Shoe Game at 6:30 pm.

Improvements at the stadium have continued over the spring and summer. Kevin Pederson, Oskaloosa Activities Director, stated, “The stadium continues to evolve and is getting better each year. When the track was completed this summer, the whole appearance of the facility changed.”

“Fans will have a great opportunity to view the action on the field from the north berm. There is plenty of room to bring a lawn chair or just to throw a blanket on the hill,” said Scott Van Veldhuizen, president of the Oskaloosa Indian Booster Club.

“We have been pleased by our fans support. Reserved ticket sales far exceeded our expectations this season,” stated Oskaloosa Superintendent Russ Reiter.

“We are excited to start our second year at the stadium,” said Todd Hafner, William Penn University head football coach. “The Statesmen are high-energy this week after learning they were ranked in the top 25 of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) by Beyond Sports Network. We are working hard and are proud to be able to compete at the complex.”

Stadium Route

Paving improvements on Green and Laveen Streets are in process and fans are asked to use the route featured to get to the stadium. “We are grateful for the numerous community groups who’ve stepped up to assist with parking,” said Sherry Vavra, director of the Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation. “If needed, additional parking will be available in other lots at the Lacey Recreation Complex.”

Again this season special parking area with views of the field will be available for fans who are unable to get to the stands and need to remain in their cars during the game. Individuals interested in reserving a space in the designated area should call Kevin Pederson at 641-673-4421.
