Esther passed away Friday morning at the Oskaloosa Care Center at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 4 days.
Esther Edna Burbank, daughter of Worth Nelson and Mabel Faye (Longaker) Burbank, was born, November 29, 1915, near Montezuma, Iowa. She was a 1934 graduate of Oskaloosa High School.
Throughout her life Esther worked at General Mills, the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office and Central Book Store. She lastly worked at Big Smith Overall factory, where she worked for over 20 years, concluding her career working in the office.
Esther was a member of the Central United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her nieces and nephews, especially cooking and baking for them.
Esther’s family includes a brother, Bill Burbank and a sister, Norma Lee Anderson, both of Oskaloosa; and nine nieces and nephews: John (Marilyn) Owens of Des Moines, Connie Wymore of Oskaloosa, Russ (Nancy) Coffey of Oskaloosa, Karen (Dennis) Fisher of Oskaloosa, Steve (Coleen) Coffey of Oskaloosa, Lynda (Jan) Fletcher of Earlham, Cyndi (Terry) Beavers of Dyke, Dave Hays of Rock Springs, WY, and Mike (Karen) Hays of Texas. Also survived by many beloved great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her four sisters: Ila Owens, Nelda Coffey, Lois Burbank and Joan Hays, and two brothers: Charles Burbank and an infant brother, Worth Burbank Jr.
Funeral services for Esther will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at the Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tom Boomershine of the Central United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at noon, Tuesday, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 4-6 p.m. to greet visitors.
