EBF Shoots Past NM Boys
EDDYVILLE – North Mahaska head coach Seth Streebin knew going into Monday’s basketball game with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont it was going to be a tall order to take down the Rockets. EBF has 11 players on the roster at 6-foot or taller and three at 6-5 or more. North Mahaska has only one player at 6-4 or above.
EBF, 14-4, was able to take advantage of that length to take a 70-57 victory. The Rockets had four players in double figures, but had a battle with the visiting Warhawks. North Mahaska (14-6) was down 23-11 after one period and made a 14-10 run in the second quarter but a late run by the Rockets allowed them to lead 45-28 at halftime.
In the second half North Mahaska could cut the Rocket lead to 11 points, but could never gain enough leverage to come any closer.
The teams were close in many of the statistical categories. EBF turned the ball over 14 times to 12 for the Warhawks. EBF outrebounded NM 38-37. The big difference came at the free throw line where the Rockets went 15-for-19 while NM shot 6-of-17.
Asher DeBoef led North Mahaska with 15 points and nine rebounds. Gabe Hora added 14 and Lucas Nunnikhoven hit for 10. Nolan Andersen scored eight points with six rebounds and Nate Sampson had five points.
Brooke Moore led the Rockets with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Jesse Cornelisen had 16 points and five rebounds while Landon Glosser and Jack Bunnell scored 10 apiece.
North Mahaska will travel to Oskaloosa Tuesday to face the Indians and Thursday will host Martensdale-St. Marys.
