Ebelsheiser Enters Guilty Plea
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Jason Ebelsheiser was back in court today to enter a guilty plea in two counts that were originally deemed mistrials at his October 2010 trial. In October, Ebelsheiser was convicted of one count of sexual abuse in the third degree, two counts of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, and one count of tampering with records. He was found not guilty of two counts of sexual abuse in the third degree. The jury was not able to reach a verdict on two counts of sexual abuse in the third degree. Those two charges were settled in court today.
Ebelsheiser plead guilty to one count of Assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and to one count of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, [a Class C Felony]. During the day’s proceedings, the judge asked questions relating to the abuse and whether or not he had inappropriately touched the two patients in question. In both cases, Ebelsheiser indicated that he had.
As a result of his guilty plea, Ebelsheiser was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison, 2 for the Aggravated Misdemeanor and 10 for the Class C Felony. The prison sentence will run concurrently with his previous 12 year sentence he receive in January. This means that he will not serve any additional jail time. He also received a $625 fine plus a 35% surcharge for the Aggravated Misdemeanor and a $1,000 fine plus a 35% surcharge for the Class C Felony.
Ebelsheiser will also be required to register as a Sex Offender. In addition, a no contact order will be filed by the state against Ebelsheiser. The no contact order will be on behalf of two of Ebelsheiser’s victims and will begin when he is released from prison.
