IOWA CITY-The Central College men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up their indoor regular season at the Iowa Invitational Friday evening.

No team scores were kept.

Coleman leads women again-Felicia Coleman (junior, Houston, Texas, J. Frank Dobie HS) had her hand in three strong performances Friday, taking fifth in the 60 meters (7.99 seconds) and third in the 200 meters (26.33) before leading off the third-place 4×400 relay (4:09.44) along with Rachel Northrup (freshman, Griswold), Rachel Purdy (junior, Ankeny), and Miranda Wehde (sophomore, Tipton). Northrup recorded a seasonal best in the 400 meters (1:00.48) to finish in fifth, while Morgan Sharp (junior, Grinnell) had a big personal best in the long jump (16-8.5) and took fourth.

“Morgan was impressive today,” said coach Joe Dunham. “It was great to see her have a breakthrough like that.”

Danko scores big personal best-A big effort from Logan Danko (junior, Centerville) in the 200 meters highlighted the men’s squad. Danko placed fifth in a highly competitive field with a time of 22.56, over three-tenths of a second faster than his previous lifetime best. In the men’s 3,000 meters, Andrew Hamer (senior, Murray) and Brent Ewing (junior, Centerville) secured a two-three finish for the Dutch with finishing times of 9:00.87 and 9:02.18, respectively.

“Logan ran a great 200 meters,” said Dunham. “He’s really rounding into form.”

The Dutch will travel to Mount Vernon for the Iowa Conference championship meet next Friday and Saturday at Cornell College. The multi-event competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday with the field events slated for 2 p.m. and the running events beginning at 6 p.m. The two-day meet will conclude Saturday.

Central’s men are the two-time defending indoor champions while the women placed second last year.

“We are excited to see what we can do next weekend,” said Dunham. “As always, we have high expectations. We’re in a great conference and this meet always brings out the best in us.”
