Drop in national rankings for Dutch track and field squads
PELLA — This week’s USTFCCA National Team Computer Rankings saw the Central College women’s and men’s track and field squads take small steps backwards, despite solid performances over the weekend.
The Dutch women slid just one spot, going back to No. 14. Missing some key components to the roster at the Wartburg Indoor Select last Saturday, the Dutch women finished sixth. The top five remains unchanged again this week, but Illinois Wesleyan gained on the No. 1 team Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Dutch women are the only Iowa Conference members ranked in the top 25.
It was a bigger step backward for the Dutch men in the rankings, going back four spots to No. 23. Central finished fourth at the Wartburg Indoor Select over the weekend, but competed without several top contributors. The top five was shaken up as Mount Union (Ohio) and Wis.-Whitewater entered at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Wis.-La Crosse is still leading the way at No. 1. Central’s men are also the only conference school ranked.
Central’s track and field squad will be split this weekend between the South Dakota State Indoor Classic in Brookings, S.D. and the Darren Young Classic hosted by Grinnell College.
