Donna Clousing
Donna ClousingOskaloosa. Donna R. Clousing, 81, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the MHP Emergency Room in Oskaloosa. She was born September 18, 1942, in Mahaska County the daughter of Gerrit and Bertha Steenhoek Beyer. Donna graduated from North Mahaska High School with the class of 1960. Following graduation, she continued her education at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and earned her teaching degree from there in 1964. While at Calvin College she met the love of her life James Clousing. Following a courtship throughout college, the two of them were married on August 28, 1964, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. They raised three children: Chia, Devin and Brit. Donna spent her career teaching elementary school and music in Michigan. She retired from teaching in the early 2000’s. In addition to teaching in the school system she gave countless piano and voice lessons over the years. In retirement Donna and Jim settled in Oskaloosa.
She was an active member of Central Church in Oskaloosa where she played the organ, helped
with musical events and helped out at Vacation Bible School. She was also an integral part of the Good News Club, an evangelical after school tutoring program. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, sewing, feeding the birds and playing the organ and piano. She was also a talented baker, and best known for her Dutch treat banket. She always looked forward to family get togethers, and enjoyed spending time with her immediate and extended family.
Donna’s family includes her husband of nearly 60 years, James Clousing of Oskaloosa; their children, Devin (Shelby) Clousing of Aurora, Colorado, Brit Clousing of Denver, Colorado, and Chia Clousing of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a grandson, Garrett Clousing; three brothers, Arlo (Carol) Beyer of rural New Sharon, Denny (Vickie) Beyer of Barnes City, and Lavern (Marlene) Beyer of New Sharon; a sister, Navonne (Glenn) Shultz of Lynnville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Central Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery at Pella. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family present will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to Central Church.
