Dennis Patrick Glancy, 73, of Fremont died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Hospice House for Wapello and Davis Counties in Ottumwa.
Dennis was born Wednesday, September 7, 1938 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of James and Eleanor Farrington Glancy. He graduated from high school in Bridgeport. Following school he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1955 – 1957. Following his discharge he went to work at Sealtest Dairy in Bridgeport. On November 1, 1958, Dennis was united in marriage to Judy Kenny at Our Lady Of Good Council Church in Bridgeport. In the mid 60’s he began driving semi and worked several places including Global Van Lines, DRS Transport, and lastly he worked at Fedex in Ottumwa pulling doubles. Dennis retired in 2006. He loved motorcycles and going where ever he could on one, especially going to Key West, Florida.
Dennis is survived by his wife: Judy Glancy of Fremont; two sons: Dennis Patrick (& Dee Dee) Glancy, Jr. of Burlington, Iowa, and Ronald William Glancy of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Cara Ann (& Russell) Waller of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren: Nicholas Glancy, Ashlee Barnes, Ben Glancy, Sidney Waller, and Jake Waller; 2 great grandchildren: Logan Glancy and Lydia Barnes; 3 sisters: Elizabeth Glancy of Oskaloosa, Mary (& William) Jaques of Mt. Dora, Florida, and Eleanor (& John) Laska of Debary, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Neil Glancy.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Reverend Otto Hayes officiating. Visitation will begin Tuesday after 1:00 p.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4 p.m. until service time at 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Military rites will be given at the funeral chapel by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
As was his wish, his body will be cremated following the funeral service and no burial is planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Hospice House serving Wapello and Davis County.
