PELLA — After a sensation performance in the heptathlon at the Wartburg Select over the week, Central College men’s track and field athlete Will Daniels (sophomore, Geneseo, Ill.) was cited as the Iowa Conference men’s indoor field events performer of the week.

It is the second time this season and third time overall receiving the award for Daniels, who was previously selected on December 3, 2017 and December 11, 2016.

Daniels scorched the 10-man heptathlon field by a 384-point margin with his score of 5,158 points. He had the best mark in the field in the high jump, long jump and 60-meter dash. He was second in the shot put and 60-meter hurdles. His combined score of 5,158 is the best in Division III this season.

His high jump mark of 6 feet, 10.75 inches is No. 4 nationally and his long jump of 22-3.5 is No. 46 in the country as well.

The Dutch will be headed in different directions this weekend as some athletes will compete at the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic in Brookings while the majority compete at the Darren Young Classic in Grinnell on the campus of Grinnell College.
