Dale Tucker

Dale Tucker, 81, of University Park, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born August 1, 1930, at Wright, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Elsie Belle Witt Tucker. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1948. Following high school, Dale served in the United States Navy. Upon his discharge he returned to Oskaloosa and went to work for Sears. On April 16, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Mae Gott at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. He went to work with George Dusenberry at the Texaco Service Station in Oskaloosa; he bought the business from George in the early 1970’s and owned and operated the station until 1983. He continued to work as a mechanic at Walker Motors, Lafrenz Motors, and lastly at Wymore Automotive, retiring from there in July of 2011. He enjoyed sports of all kinds including: St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, bowling, golf, and early on had played basketball and softball. Dale and Marge were familiar faces at Oskaloosa sporting events they enjoyed the activity but delighted in watching their children and grandchildren participate. He was a member of the American Legion and had been a long time member of the Oskaloosa Jaycees.

His family includes his wife of over 60 years, Marjorie Tucker of University Park; three sons: Steve (& Lisa) Tucker of Oskaloosa, Brian (& Flo) Tucker of Pensacola, Florida and Mike Tucker of Ottumwa; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother: Tommy (& Fern) Tucker of Milan, Illinois; three sisters: Mary (& Bob) Curry of Oskaloosa, Hazel (& Don) Hite of New Sharon, and Marjorie (& Ed) Mitrisin of Oskaloosa; and a sister in law: Arlene (& Dick) Wiedmann of Keomah Village.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Maxine Fisher and Darlene Comstock; and four brothers: Eugene, Bill, Charles, and Jack Tucker.

Private family graveside services will be held with burial in the University Park Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Open visitation in the Bates Funeral Chapel will begin Thursday after 10 a.m. and continue until 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Booster Club.
