City Council recognizes outgoing City Council members

Oskaloosa, Iowa- The Oskaloosa City Council met in regular session Monday evening with Mayor David Krutzfeldt presiding. After public comment thanking Members Pam Blogmren and Lori Smith for their service, the Council approved two resolutions of appreciation for the two. It was noted in Blomgren’s resolution that she had served on the council and offered leadership during times of controversy such as annexation, the city hall renovation project, the Edmundson Pool renovation, the downtown streetscaping project. It was also noted she had served on several different boards and commissions. Blomgren first took her seat as a Council member in October 2001 after winning a special election to fill the vacancy of then 4th Ward Council member Dave Krutzfeldt who had resigned.

It was noted in Smith’s resolution that she had served on the council and offered leadership during times of controversy such as during annexation, the downtown streetscaping project, the regional airport discussions, and during the franchise fees debate. It was also noted that she had served on several various boards and commissions. Smith took her seat as a council member in April of 2007 after winning a special  election to fill the vacancy of then At-Large Council member Eric Palmer who had resigned to serve in the Iowa House.

At the end of the meeting, Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt sworn in new incoming members Joe Caligiuri (At-Large), and Jason VanZetten (4th Ward). Both will begin their terms on January 1st.

The Council also presented several longevity plaques to different city employees. Those receiving plaques and their years of service to the city are as follows: Nancy Jones (30 years), Kim Weiss (30 years), Nick Witt (25 years), Joe Richards (20 years). In other action, the City Council:

  • Approved the appointments of Jim Hansen, and Margaret Lou Ademeit to the historic preservation commission, the appointments of Bryan Johnson and Jim Hansen to the Board of Adjustment, and appointment of Patricia Dixon to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter Commission
  • Approved the second reading of an ordinance amending sections 15.16.030, 15.12.020, and 15.04.030 of the municipal code to show the city’s intent to enforce the 2009 International Fire Code, the 2011 National Electric Code, the 2009 International Building Code, the 2009 International Mechanical Code, and the 2009 International Residential Code.
  •  Approved the second reading of an ordinance establishing a no parking zone on the west side of Gurney Street from Trueblood Ave to Roseneberger Ave from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Approved a resolution approving a sales agreement between the City of Oskaloosa and Matt Sherlock, PGA Professional
  • Approved a resolution to enter into an agreement with the Oskaloosa Downtown Development Group in the amount of $50,000 for the purpose of constructing the Trolley Place project.

Due to the New Year’s Day Holiday, the next meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council will be on Tuesday, January 3rd. Due to the Iowa Caucuses falling on that evening, the City Council will meet at 5:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM.
