Central’s Sarcone wins league honor
PELLA—Central College’s Annie Sarcone (sophomore, Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) is the Iowa Conference softball position player of the week.
Sarcone hit .452, going 14-for-31 as the Dutch compiled a 9-1 record at the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational Games last week. The shortstop slugged .903 and had five doubles and three home runs. Sarcone scored 11 times and drove in 12 runs. She posted five multiple-hit games and also had 22 assists.
It’s the first time Sarcone, a 2011 first-team all-league pick, has been honored. She’s batting a team-high .489 for the season with five home runs and 18 RBIs.
Central (14-2) competes in the Washington-St. Louis Invitational Saturday and Sunday. The ninth-ranked Dutch open the tournament against Fontbonne (Mo.) at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Ann, Mo.
