PELLA—Central College’s Kent Henderson, an assistant men’s basketball coach, was selected for the NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy May 8-9.

Henderson was among just 20 assistant coaches nationwide accepted into the program in Tampa, Florida. The academy offers them an opportunity to expand their knowledge and insight into intercollegiate basketball coaching.

The NCAA will provide education and training in numerous areas, including effective communication with campus and community constituents, the importance of culture-building focused on the overall on-and-off-court success of student-athletes, budget management and coaching strategies.

A variety of workshops and interactive discussion sessions will be held. Coaches will also have networking opportunities with other participants as well as NCAA and intercollegiate basketball leaders.

Henderson just completed his second season with the Dutch. A 2016 Iowa State University graduate, he was a student assistant video coordinator with the Cyclone football team. He was head coach for the All Iowa Attack AAU team and served as a freshman coach for Gilbert High School and assistant sophomore coach at Urbandale High School.
