Central’s Geneser wins league football honor

PELLA — Central College linebacker Luke Geneser (junior, Granger, Woodward-Granger HS) is the Iowa Conference football defensive player of the week.

Geneser made two interceptions and forced a fumble in Central’s 31-14 triumph at Luther College in Decorah Saturday. The 6-0, 215-pound junior also made five tackles, including two solo stops, while also recording a pass breakup. He returned the two interceptions 66 yards. He picked off a tipped pass on the game’s opening possession and returned it 25 yards to the Lutehr 14-yard line, setting up Central’s first touchdown. He returned his second interception 41 yards in the second quarter, leading to a field goal.

Central forced five turnovers on the day.

For the season, Geneser has 29 tackles, including 11 unassisted stops with 1.5 tackles for loss and two pass breakups.

Central, 3-4 overall and 2-2 in league play, returns home to take on Loras College Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in Pella.
