Des Moines, Iowa — Oskaloosa’s Tierney Carter delivered an outstanding performance on one of Iowa’s biggest stages, racing her way to a 10th-place finish in the 400-meter dash at the prestigious Drake Relays. Carter set a new personal record with a time of 57.65 seconds, missing another major time milestone by just 0.12 seconds.

Competing at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, the sophomore sprinter faced the top talent from across the state, as the Drake Relays annually attract the best high school, college, and professional track and field athletes. Established in 1910, the Drake Relays have earned a reputation as one of America’s premier track meets, often dubbed “America’s Athletic Classic.” For Iowa athletes, qualifying alone is considered a major career achievement.

Carter’s strong showing at Drake adds to her growing list of accomplishments this season. With her performance Friday, she continues to climb among the top 400-meter runners in Class 3A. Her new personal best of 57.65 not only moves her closer to elite status statewide but also sets the stage for a strong postseason run as the state qualifying meets approach.

Tierney Carter’s appearance at the Drake Relays marks another major highlight for Oskaloosa High School athletics this spring.
