Burl Harvey Morrison, son of Milton Lacy and Flossie Flo Harlow Morrison, was born, January 23, 1925, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He attended Oskaloosa schools and during his junior and senior years of high school he worked afternoons at the Ford garage learning car body repair. He earned 10 cents/hour. The summer before his senior year in H.S. Burl traveled with a friend to Fairbanks, Alaska. There they worked with a construction crew building seven homes and a 72 room hotel. This was an experience Burl would never forget and one he enjoyed sharing with others. After he graduated from Oskaloosa Senior High in 1945, he went to work at the Ford garage doing car body repair. August 30, 1945, Burl was united in marriage with Shirley Ruth Grant at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They made their home in Oskaloosa. When his brother, Earl, returned from the marines, they both went to work at the Chevy garage, where Burl taught his brother the trade. He would later work at Freeman Garage, where he was the body shop supervisor. He worked there for ten years before going to work at the Clow Valve Company machine shop. There he would eventually supervise quality control. He retired after 28 years with Clow in 1985. Burl’s interest in working on cars was something he enjoyed his entire life. Burl’s other hobbies included woodworking, coaching Little League, and golf. He and Shirley were able to travel together and eventually were able to spend their winters in Arizona.
