Bowling Teams Competing at High Level

William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–The William Penn bowling squads continue to make huge strides in just their third season of competition with both ranked high in the national polls.

The Statesmen bowling team is rated fourth in the current collegebowling.com rankings. With five tournaments in the books, the navy and gold have secured two titles at the Midwest Collegiate Tournament and ISBPA/Kegel Collegiate Classic as well as two silvers and a bronze.

In its latest tournament, William Penn led 29 teams in qualifying as Sean Rangel (Jr., Omaha, Neb., Bellevue East HS) broke a school record with a 250.7 tournament average.

Rangel is currently third in the nation with a 217.8 average, while three of his teammates are also in the top 30. Nick Atkinson (Sr., Frostburg, Md., Vincennes CC) is 23rd with a 209.3 clip, Brandon Brooks (Sr., Sigourney, Vincennes CC) is 24th with a 209.0 mark, and Cameron Foster (So., West Jordan, Utah, West Jordan HS) is 29th with a 207.5 average.

Though not in the top ten, the women have not taken a back seat to the male counterparts.

The Lady Statesmen, who are #20 in the ranking, have secured five-straight top-ten finishes, including taking runner-up honors at the Minnesota Invitational. At that event, senior Breanne Underwood (Sr., Treynor, Treynor HS) nearly won her first collegiate crown, placing second just 19 pins behind the winner.

Underwood is 28th nationally, while Samantha Powell (Jr., Herriman, Utah, Bingham HS) is 52nd and Kelsey Johnson (Fr., Montgomery, Ill., Oswego East HS) is 61st.

William Penn will be busy just prior to Christmas, traveling to Las Vegas, Nev. for two Tier 1 tournaments from December 18-21.
