Bowling Teams Compete Well at Baker Challenge
Lady Statesmen Win Match Play Crown at Baker Event
Addison, Ill.–The William Penn women’s bowling team picked up its first title of the year at the Robert Morris Baker Challenge last weekend.
The Lady Statesmen finished fourth out of 20 varsity teams in qualifying with 7,214 pins over 40 Baker games. Robert Morris (Ill.) was the top qualifier with 7,581 pins.
In match play, the navy and gold pulled a pair of upsets, finally taking down third-seeded Robert Morris-Peoria (Ill.) in the finals to earn the crown.
The lineup consisted of Samantha Powell (Sr., Herriman, Utah, Psychology/Human Services), Breanne Underwood (Grad., Treynor, Iowa, Master’s of Business Leadership), Kirstin Newberry (Jr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education), Jessica Ganem (Sr., Austin, Texas, Psychology), Kelsey Johnson (So., Montgomery, Ill., Secondary Education), L’Neisha Porter (Fr., Chicago, Ill., General Accounting and Abigayle Wempen (Sr., Titonka, Iowa, Public Accounting).

Statesmen Reach Finals at Baker Challenge
Addison, Ill.–The William Penn men’s bowling team recorded its best finish of the year, eventually setting up an all-Midwest Collegiate Conference championship match at the Robert Morris Baker Challenge last weekend.
The Statesmen finished seventh out of 21 varsity teams in qualifying with 7,076 pins over 40 Baker games. Robert Morris (Ill.) was the top qualifier with 8,225 pins.
In match play, the navy and gold reached the finals before falling to Mount Mercy for the title.
The varsity group consisted of Cameron Foster (Jr., West Jordan, Utah, Business Management), Jacques Kaune (Fr., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management), Drew Balta (Jr., Walford, Iowa, Education), Conan Mackey (So., Bray, Ireland, Public Accounting), Piet Schaeffer (Jr., Livingston, Scotland, General Mathematics), Brandon Barboza (So., Brick, N.J., Sociology), and Kyle Clark (Jr., Aurora, Ill., Physical Education).
A junior varsity team was also in action at the Challenge. The squad placed fourth out of 11 teams with 6,805 pins.
The JV lineup included Travis Scott (Fr., West Saint Paul, Minn., Physical Education), Eric Smith (Sr., Glenwood, Iowa, Industrial Technology), Cory Rissman (Fr., Yorkville, Ill., Industrial Technology), Connor Frederick (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, History/Government), Michael Applegate (Fr., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Undecided), Garrett Beaham (Fr., Letts, Iowa, Industrial Technology), and Nathan Namanny (Jr., Denison, Iowa, Applied Mathematics).
