Blaylock Defends Heart POW Laurel
Oskaloosa–After winning the award last week, Kevion Blaylock (Sr., Houston, Texas, Information Technology) provided quite the encore in two more Statesmen victories as he was again named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday.
Blaylock notched his fourth career honor (second this season) by guiding #1 William Penn (21-1, 12-1 Heart) to hard-fought road wins over Peru State and Evangel.
In Wednesday’s contest versus the Bobcats, the senior went 8-for-14 from the field (2-for-2 3-PT) in a 25-point effort. Blaylock, who was 7-for-8 from the free-throw line, also pulled down 14 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the campaign. He added two assists, one block, and one steal as well.
Three days later, Blaylock narrowly missed another double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. He was 9-for-13 during the outing (63.0% on the week), including going 2-for-4 from behind the arc. The senior once again missed just one of his eight free throws, while also producing one assist, one block, and one steal.
For the year, Blaylock is averaging 20.7 points and 10.6 rebounds, while shooting 58.1% from the floor and 75.7% from the charity stripe.
The weekly award is the third of the year for the Statesmen.
