Blake Van Veldhuizen Selected To The South Team For Annual Shrine Bowl
The Iowa High School Football Coaches Association has selected the Coaches for the 2018 Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic. The game will be played Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls starting at 4:00 P.M.
The South Head Coach is: Sam Anderson, Urbandale
Assistant Coaches: Matt Malausky, Lenox, Lorenzo White, Woodward Academy, Nick Ehret, Central Lee, Gabe Bakker, Clear Creek Amana, and Aaron Wiley, Bettendorf.
The North Head Coach is: Doug Winkowitsch, West Delaware, Manchester
Assistant Coaches: Matt Lee, Starmont Community, Andy Jacobson, Algona, Matt Finn, Osage, Bill Shafer, Central Springs, and Maurice Blue, Cedar Rapids, Washington.
The Coaches have selected 46 players for each squad. The selections are made from nominations from coaches around the state.
The cheerleading coaches for 2018 are Mindy DeBaun, Callender, Megan Stumpf, Southeast Valley-Gowrie, and Sandy Norby, Osage and Choreographer Renna McGrann- Ankeny. They have selected 48 cheerleaders to cheer for our outstanding squads.
The 2018 game will be the 46th, annual All-Star game, which has raised over $2,600,000 for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. There are 19 orthopedic hospitals in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Hawaii, three burn centers in the United States and 1unit in the US that treats all types of cases. We have been privileged to have some of the finest football players participate in this prestigious game – many who have gone on to excel at the college and professional level. Regardless of the score- everyone is a winner in the All-Star game- especially our hospital.
