Art, History, And A Local Taste Of Wine And Cheese
The Art of Winter, a Fundraiser for NPFM School Program, will be held March 4 at Bradbury Hall on the Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum in Oskaloosa.Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum, an open air history museum, is the experiential learning facility for the Mahaska County Historical Society. Every spring school buses arrive with hundreds children eager to participate in the activities of 1850. During the next two hours they will grind corn, make butter, attend a one room school, do laundry, make a candle, and participate in many other experiences that a child would have done over 150 years ago. Experiential learning increases an understanding of the past and teaches the concept of self-sufficiency and problem solving. The funds raised during “the Art of Winter” will be used to purchase supplies and equipment that is used during the NPFM School Program.
The Art of Winter will feature works of local artists from Mahaska County, both past and present. Pieces from the FACE program, students of Wm. Penn College and the collection at Mahaska CHS will be on exhibit. Refreshments will be served featuring the wines of Tassel Ridge and the cheese of Frisian Farms. One area will be set up so you can try your hand at these old-time activities.
Admission donation requested is $20.00; MCHS members donation is $15.00.
