WPU Ends Fall at NAIA Midwest Invite

Silvis, Ill.–The Statesmen men’s golf team closed out its autumn campaign by facing off against a PGA Tour golf course and all its difficulty at the NAIA Midwest Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
William Penn finished seventh out of 15 teams with a two-day score of 660 (335-325) at the par-71 TPC Deere Run Golf Course, the host site of the PGA’s Deere Run Classic. #27 Columbia (Mo.) took the team crown at 636 (319-317), while #21 Indiana Wesleyan was third and #23 Cardinal Stritch was fifth.
The course did not play nice with the collegiate linksters as the low score was 150 (76-74) by Curtis Brokenbrow of Missouri Baptist.
Like everyone else in the field, Zachary Chegwidden (Jr., Essex, England, Business Management) carded numbers higher than normal, but as per the usual, the junior was still in the mix at tourney’s end, posting a 154 (79-75) to tie for second.
Spencer Tucker (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) joined his teammate in the top 10, tying for seventh at 157 (81-76).
Oliver Stanway (Jr., Leicester, England, Sports Management) was next, recording a pair of 83’s to tie for 24th at 166, while Davis King (Fr., Upminster, England, Sports Management) tied for 65th at 185 (92-93).
Oscar Florez Martinez (So., Gignon, Spain, Business Management) ran into an unfortunate situation on the first day of competition as he and his pairing mates were all disqualified for hitting from the wrong tee box. The sophomore then tallied a 91 on the second day.
