Oskaloosa Art Center Hosts Empowerment Event

The Henna Empowerment Event to support Crisis Intervention Services was a huge success. The event was hosted at the new Oskaloosa Art Center.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The weather had turned cool, and many of the outdoor plans had been scrubbed, but things were busy inside the Oskaloosa Art Center, when they played host to the Crisis Intervention Services Henna Empowerment Event.

The hope was to help raise some money to benefit victims of sexual assault and violent crime, and the group raised approximately $800.00 during the crowded event.

Henna is a dye that is made from the henna tree, and has been used since ancient times as a form of temporary body art.

The artists worked well beyond the scheduled two hours, as demand exceeded expectations.

Leslie Ruggles, with CIS, explained that beyond the monetary portion of the evening, this empowering event also helped to create community awareness of the organization, and the services that they help provide to victims in the community.

Crisis Intervention Services provide support and empowerment to victims/survivors of domestic and dating violence, and/or sexual assault, in Appanoose, Davis, Jasper, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Poweshiek, Wapello, and Wayne counties in Iowa.

Those services include a shelter, education, and provision of volunteer opportunities for those looking to make a difference in their community.

If you need assistance due to a sexual assault, or violent crime, you can reach out to CIS on their hotline, at 1-800-270-1620.
