GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Nick Brule ’17 and Antonio DiMarco ’18 have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Men’s Scholar All-North Central Region Team.

Both Brule, a 6-3 biological engineering major from Iron Mountain, Mich. (Iron Mountain) and DiMarco, a 6-2 political science major from Clear Lake, Iowa (Clear Lake), were second-team forward selections.

Brule and DiMarco, both first-team All-Midwest Conference selections, led the Pioneers to an 11-7-1 overall mark, the team’s best record since the 2008 campaign. Grinnell returned to the MWC Tournament for the first time since 2012 and played in the title contest for the first time since 2009.

Brule led the MWC in goals with 12 and was third in points with 28. He was second for Grinnell in assists with four. Brule made a mark on Grinnell’s record book, ranking eighth for points in a season and ninth in goals. On the career list, he ranks eighth in goals with 23 and ninth in points with 52.

DiMarco led the Pioneers in assists with six, a figure that ranked fourth in the MWC. He also had three goals and 12 points, which were both third-highest for Grinnell. DiMarco’s assist total is the 10th-highest for a Grinnell player in a season, and his 15 career assists rank third all-time.

“It is my opinion that the Scholar All-Region and Scholar All-America teams are the most difficult postseason teams to make,” said Grinnell coach Brian Jaworski. “For a player to make those teams, he/she must check a lot of boxes such as being a significant contributor on the field in both stats and games played, high GPA, team performance must reflect a successful season, and much more.

“You will have to look long and hard to find a college/university that has two forwards named to a Scholar All-Region team in the same season,” he added. “This is Grinnell. We ask our student-athletes to dream big and work hard towards accomplishing those goals. Grinnell College and our men’s soccer program are especially proud of these two outstanding scholar-athletes for their well-deserved recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Congratulations, Nick and Antonio! Not only have they made it to the top of the region as student-athletes, they play the game with style and class. It doesn’t hurt that they are two of the nicest people you will ever meet.”
