One-hundred and fifty-thousand lights will shine in downtown Oskaloosa beginning December 1st at the lighted Christmas parade.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The downtown in Oskaloosa will be painted in lights this holiday season, when over 150,000 LED lights will be switched on at the annual lighted Christmas parade.

Dan Brice, with DB Landscape, was one of those individuals responsible for bringing the light display to town.

Brice and a friend of his pitched the idea to Oskaloosa Main Street nearly 3 years ago. This coming Thursday, that idea will be on display.

Brice said that eyelets were installed every 15 feet on the buildings, with steel cable attached to those, which enable the strands of lights to be placed just 6 inches from each other vertically.

It’s estimated that each building will cost approximately $20 for the month because of the energy efficient lights.

Brice will be able to control the lights with his phone, as well as the display being on a timer.

The process took nearly 3 weeks, 6 days a week, for the 6 man crew to complete the project.

Brice said that he’s excited, “I hope it brings a lot of people to town. That was our goal, to showcase Oskaloosa.”
