Oskaloosa, Iowa – The old folk story of ‘Stone Soup’ found a way of helping a new group get the food they need, when Mahaska Health Partnership and the Mahaska Wellness Coalition worked to find a way to help fill the shelves of the local food pantry.

Nicole Morgan, Director of the Oskaloosa Public Library, read the book ‘Stone Soup’ to attendees, and then Oskaloosa Community Theater provided a rendition of the timeless tale later in the afternoon.

‘Stone Soup’ shares the story of how a group of hungry strangers manipulate the local population into sharing their food. The strangers then end up sharing their new fortune with those around them.

No one was manipulated on Sunday; a generous heart to share with others was the only motivation needed. In return, attendees were treated to a bowl of soup for their generosity.
