Oskaloosa, Iowa – The voters in Mahaska County and others from around the country are heading to the polls on November 8th.

With all the equipment that is needed, election officials started the task of certifying and sealing the equipment responsible for handling, counting, and securing the ballots.

The test also involves running a test election, where pre-marked ballots are fed into the machines, and the results need to match the predetermined results.

“We do everything we can to make sure it works correctly”, said Mahaska County Auditor, Sue Brown.

The process to test and certify the voting equipment takes approximately 3 days to complete.

Over 2900 people have already cast their ballots in Mahaska County, and the trend is below the election of 4 years ago that had 6000 absentee ballots cast that year, which was the most ever in the county.

Some voter apathy has set in, particularly in Mahaska County where the only contested race involves House District 80, where Larry Sheets is the incumbent.
