Oskaloosa, Iowa – An effort is underway in Mahaska County to find the oldest living veteran in Mahaska County.

The American Legion Post 34, in conjunction with Hy-Vee, Penn Central Mall, KBOE and the Oskaloosa Herald, is documenting veterans from the county, both living and deceased.

Post Commander Darrin Alderson said Saturday’s effort was the first step in their project, that was initiated by Hy-Vee to get the names and pictures of all veterans in the Mahaska County area, so as to create a video that could be played throughout their store on Veterans Day.

Alderson said that the project is also a good way to get veterans out, greet them and update their information and pictures about those who have called Mahaska County home, either now or in the past. They could have been born in Mahaska County and moved away, or moved to the county after their service was complete.

If you missed out on Saturday, you can still get the information to the American Legion in Oskaloosa, or Hy-Vee.
Alderson said you can email the information to: darrin.alderson3@gmail.com.

If dropping off photos or other information, a copy of the original is best.
