Ronnie Vance, 65, of University Park passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at his home in University Park, Iowa.
Ronald Duane Vance, son of Frank “Duane” and Blanche Julia (Laud) Vance, was born, July 5, 1950, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The family lived in Beacon.
Ronnie was a 1969 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. As a young man, he played bass guitar in the Reflections Band.
Ronnie worked briefly for Boyer Sanitation after high school and then went on to work at Pella Corp. and Vermeer Manufacturing. He then drove a semi-truck for U.S. Fiber. Ronnie found the job he enjoyed the most when he went to work for Kaiser Corporation, now Martin Marietta, operating heavy equipment for 30 years. Ronnie retired because of health concerns from Norris Asphalt in July 2015.
Ronnie married the loved-of-his-life, Carolyn Sue Playle, January 17, 1969, in Oskaloosa. They made their home in University Park.
Ronnie enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating with his family; his grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved buying them toy heavy equipment and playing with them.
His family includes his wife, Carolyn of University Park; his children and their spouses: Rickey Vance of Oskaloosa, Mickey (& Brandie) Vance of Oskaloosa, and Kelley Vance (& Jeramie Mann) of University Park; six grandchildren: Nadia Hatfield, Dylan Vance, Jasmine Mann, Dalton Vance, Isaac Mann and Dawson Vance; his parents, Duane and Blanche Vance of Oskaloosa; a sister, Debbie (& Bob) Parton of Beacon; and a brother, Steve (& Nancy) Vance of Ankeny. Ronnie is also survived by his wife’s siblings, who he helped raise: Linda Gott, Robbie Playle, Judy Playle, and David Playle, all of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Sue Vance; a sister, Diane Meyers; and his grandmothers: Blanche Laud and Carmella Benscoter.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2016, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Jicinsky of the Ebenezer Reformed Church of Leighton officiating.
Visitation will be Friday morning from 9 a.m. until service time, so that the family can greet friends and relatives.
As was his wish, his body has been cremated.
Inurnment of his ashes will be at Old White Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
