OSKALOOSA, IA — The high voltage Tony Award winning Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet hits the George Daily Auditorium stage on Thursday, January 28th at 7:30 p.m.! This rock ‘n’ roll musical brings you inside Sun Records on the night Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins all came together for a recording session.

Can’t wait for the 28th? Get in the Million Dollar Quartet mood with these events:

Did you know Elvis recorded his first record for $3.25 as a gift for his mother? Find out this and more at a multimedia presentation by Andy Clark at C.L. Barnhouse about the musical history of Million Dollar Quartet. Using first hand experience and industry knowledge, he’ll take us through the cultural significance of the recording session and what it meant for the future of rock ‘n’ roll. Join us downstairs at On The Green for this free presentation on Thursday, January 21st. Come at 6:00 p.m. if you’d like to order food or drink, or 6:30 p.m. for the presentation.

For one night only, the “Million Dollar Book Club” will meet to discuss “Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock ‘n’ Roll” by Peter Guralnick. Listen to some of the music that played a key role in his career and consider the lasting legacy of his mission: “a singular mix of black and white voices passionately proclaiming the vitality of the American vernacular tradition while at the same time declaring, once and for all, a new, integrated musical day.” Pick up the book at the Book Vault for 15% off and join them on Monday, January 25th at 7:30 p.m. for the book club.

For tickets or more information, contact the George Daily Auditorium at 641-672-0799. Million Dollar Quartet is sponsored by Musco Lighting and C.L. Barnhouse. This presentation is supported by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from the Iowa Arts Council, the Crane Group, and General Mills Foundation. This program is also made possible with support from the Mahaska County Community Foundation.
