Tornado Damage Confirmed In Barnes City

Other parts of the area suffered damage as well. This building near the Mahaska/Keokuk County line suffered major damage as a result of the storms.
Barnes City, Iowa – According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, a high-end EF-1 tornado impacted the Barnes City area on November 11th, 2015.
Officials with the National Weather Service said that the tornado touched down a few miles southwest of Barnes City and traveled northeast toward Barnes City, where it eventually struck the town.
The experts on the ground estimate wind speeds of 107 mph, with the tornado on the ground for 4.9 miles, reaching 125 yards in width on the ground.
The tornado lifted nearly a mile northeast of Barnes City.
According to the survey report, the tornado damaged or destroyed several structures and trees along its path. In the town of Barnes City, multiple outbuildings were slid off their foundations and the back of one car was shifted by 2 feet.
No injuries were reported with this tornado.

The tornado in Barnes City is just one of several reports of severe weather in the area. In Knoxville, a similar strength tornado caused significant damage to a Wal-Mart store and several homes.
The severe weather outbreak was part of a major storm system that dumped snow to the west, and caused high winds in several other states.
