Pella, Iowa – The picturesque canal running through Molengrat Plaza in Pella, Iowa was a stark contrast to the backyard rally held earlier in the day for presidential hopeful Jeb Bush.

Attendees waited in the summer sun, between the brick the buildings that overlook the canal, to hear from the former Florida Governor. “It’s a beautiful city. You all should be very proud,” Bush said of the host town Pella.

Bush officially announced his desire to seek the office his father and brother both held on Monday, June 15, in Miami, Florida. Bush then turned his attention immediately towards Iowa. On the third day of his candidacy Bush arrived in Iowa, stopping first in Washington, Iowa, and ending the day in Pella.

Bush took the stage with an energetic crowd interested on listening to, what some are calling, a front-runner for the nomination in the Republican Party.

Bush took aim at Washington D.C., stating that he wanted to focus on having Washington D.C. serve the American people versus the American people serving Washington D.C. “I got to be governor of a purple state,” Bush said of his time as Florida Governor. “Republicans win when we have a message that is hopeful and optimistic. A conservative message of limited government.”

“Government income shouldn’t grow faster than personal income,” Bush said, as he spoke about how he would cut taxes to allow personal incomes to grow. “It can be done because I’ve seen how you do it.”

When it came to Florida’s budget, Bush claims to have left the state with nearly 10 billion dollars in reserves. “The state was better off fiscally, and it was certainly better off economically; because we challenged and we reformed things, and I made tough decisions.”

Bush has taken some heat from conservative Republicans over his support of common core. During his speech this week, he talked about how he worked on helping to repair the education system in Florida, which had a 50% graduation rate. “I fixed the education system in Florida and it now has had a graduation rate that has improved each and every year.”

“People would be motivated to dream bigger dreams,” Bush said of his plans to increase prosperity in America. “The fact that we have permanent poverty in this country would begin to be altered.”

When it comes to national defense, Bush said a strategy has to be developed to take out ISIS. He also said America needs to develop a strategy with its neighbors over the long-haul, “And reengage again, not as the world’s policeman but as the world’s leader.”

After his prepared stump speech, Bush spent a considerable amount of time taking questions from the audience.

At this time, there are no publicly scheduled events for the Bush campaign in Iowa.
