Oskaloosa–The William Penn volleyball team struggled with a mishmash lineup in falling 3-0 to Culver-Stockton (Mo.) Friday.

The Statesmen (2-17) lost by scores of 9-25, 17-25, 21-25.

Entering the night with a squad-high 197 kills, Kylie Giger (Jr., Elkhart, Ind., Exercise Science) was unfortunately unable to add to that tally as she rolled her ankle on the first play of the match and sat out the remainder of the night. The injury forced WPU to play several players in different positions against the Wildcats (12-3).

The hosts fought valiantly but were outmatched at the net, getting outhit.330-.048. Kayce Skocko (Jr., Watsonville, Calif., Business Management) topped the offense with 11 kills and a .229 attack percentage.

Leyra Jusino (Jr., Bayamon, P.R., General Biology) finished with 15 assists, while Emily McHugh (Jr., Plainfield, Ill., Pre-Law & Psychology) added nine helpers as the Statesmen went with a two-setter formation.

Danielle Breeher (Jr., St. Louis, Mo., Undecided) managed two aces, while Kelsey Guyette (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Elementary Education) tallied ten digs.

“That injury really threw a wrench into things; Kylie going down took a lot out of us,” Head Coach Jennifer Carlson said. “The ladies really battled back in the second set and played well together. We played well for two sets and are moving in the right direction, even with the injury.”

Next Up: William Penn remains at home next Tuesday to host AIB in Midwest Collegiate Conference action at 7 p.m.
