Steffeck Signs Contract to Play Pro Ball in Czech Republic
Former Statesmen All-American Keith Steffeck has signed a professional basketball contract, making his dream of playing at the next level a reality.
“This is a dream come true,” explained Steffeck. “I am REALLY a pro basketball player.”
Steffeck will lace up his professional sneakers for Usti Nad Labem BKU, a team in Mattoni NBL, the Czech Republic’s top professional league.
“I want to thank all of William Penn University and the Oskaloosa community for the support,” said Steffeck. “The fans were awesome.”
Steffeck was an NAIA First-Team All-American for the navy and gold in their record-breaking 2012-2013 campaign. He averaged 14.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and also managed a school-record 71 blocks in addition to 59 assists and 30 steals. Steffeck posted nine double-doubles last year and was Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Week once.
William Penn Head Coach John Henry is thrilled for his former player.
“We are all so happy and excited for Keith and his family,” said the Statesmen coach. “They deserve this amazing opportunity.”
Steffeck was equally thankful to the Statesmen family for helping him achieve this dream.
“I also want to thank all of my Statesmen teammates and coaches for all of their help and the memories,” Steffeck said.
“Keith is a tremendously talented young man,” Coach Henry added. “I know he will shine at the pro level. He is ready for this chapter in his life.”
While the Statesmen family will be welcoming some new members to the men’s basketball team later this month, Steffeck will be en route to his new European home, leaving on August 18, just one day after his older brother’s wedding. The Mattoni NBL season usually lasts until late March-early April.
