William Penn hosts the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships at the stadium at the Lacey Recreation Complex
William Penn University hosted for the first time ever a MCC Multi-championship over the weekend at the Lacey complex stadium track. Grand View took the title as MCC 2013 Champions, their coach commenting that his team may have started late on the inside but said “they worked hard and pulled it off in the end!” William Penn also turned out titles with Gabriel Green winning the Men 400 meter Dash with a time of 49.25 in the finals, Sam Taylor winning the men’s 110 meter Hurdles with a time of 15.06 in the finals, and Tarah Alexander winning for the Women 800 Meter Run with a finals time of 2 minutes 20.85 seconds. Dan Tomlin coach of St. Ambrose and MC for the event stated at the awards that all the seniors from all the teams had much to be proud of with the multiple awards and records set this year. He announced just after asking the seniors to take a last 100 meter run along the track, “these seniors have made this championship one of the premier events in the NAIA!” Greg Hafner, William Penn’s athletic director and host of the event added, “We heard many positive comments about the facility and organization of the meet. A special thanks to Coach Friesen and his staff for their hard work!”
