Oskaloosa–A pair of Statesmen softball players were recognized for their greatness on and off the diamond Friday.

Right fielder Cassie Lohman (Sr., Burbank, Calif., Sociology), who owns a 3.86 Grade Point Average, and third baseman K.C. Routos (Sr., Newcastle, Wash., Physical Education), who has a 3.85 GPA, were both named all-District 5 College Division honorees as part of the Capitol One Academic All-America program by CoSIDA.

The all-district accolade recognizes student-athletes not only for their athletic prowess but also their successes academically. The College division includes institutions within the NAIA ranks as well as Canadian universities and two-year schools.

Lohman, who was also honored by CoSIDA as a sophomore in 2011, made the transition from infield to outfield in her final campaign and has performed quite well. She is hitting .333 on the year (43-for-129) with ten doubles, one triple, 19 runs scored, and 18 RBIs. The senior is posting a .426 slugging percentage, a .358 on-base clip, and is fielding at a .944 rate (two errors in 36 chances).

Routos, a first-time honoree, is hitting .301 (46-for-153) with 11 doubles, two triples, team bests in home runs (4) and runs scored (37), and 24 RBIs. She has a .477 slugging percentage, a .385 on-base clip (team-best 20 walks), and is fielding at .947 (nine errors in 171 chances). The senior leads all players with 14 sacrifice hits as well.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least sophomore academic standing, be a starter or key reserve player (other playing requirements where applicable), maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full calendar year.
