Grinnell, Iowa – The Pioneers of Grinnell College are known for their fast paced high scoring games, but one Pioneer sophomore set the mark for all time in NCAA Division III.

Jack Taylor shattered the record, running up 138 points in a single game. He shot the ball an amazing 108 times. Taylor shot 52 of 108 attempts from the field, and netted 27 of the 71 three point attempts and made 7 out of 10 from the free throw line.

Grinnell College ended up defeating Faith Baptist Bible 179-104.

Last year, Grinnell College’s Griffin Lentsch erupted for 89 points, an NCAA Division III national record, as the Pioneer men’s basketball team sailed past Principia College 145-97 in Elsah, Ill.

Lentsch’s scoring output surpassed the previous D-III mark of 77 points, set by former Grinnell star Jeff Clement in 1998.

Lentsch’s total is third all-time in all of NCAA, placing only behind the 112-point production by Clarence “Bevo” Francis of Rio Grande in 1954 and the 110-point output by Frank Selvy of Furman, also in 1954.

The 9-0 William Penn Statesmen will be visiting the 3-0 Pioneers of Grinnell College at 4:00 pm this Sunday in Grinnell. Last year, in an intense run-and-gun showing, William Penn fell short to Grinnell, 150-137.
