Gorrie Leads Penn to Third Win in a Row

Fremont, Neb.–Nick Gorrie (Fr., Kilmarnock, Scotland, Grange Academy) added to his team-best goal tally as the Statesmen soccer team held off Midland (Neb.) 1-0 in non-conference action Wednesday.

It took nearly the entire first 45 minutes to break the scoreless tie, but Gorrie finally did it off a pass from Tim Eyer (Sr., Palos Heights, Ill., Shepard HS) at the 38:30 mark. The goal is the freshman’s ninth of the year, while Eyer now has two assists.

According to the home team’s stats, Penn (6-6-1) was more opportunistic as it was outshot 18-12.

Gorrie and Eyer led the visitors with three shots each, while Daniel Beseau (Fr., Florissant, Mo., Timberland HS) and Tyler Mather (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa Western CC) added two shots apiece.

Tadeo Cavazos (Sr., Baytown, Texas, Lee HS) was tested in both halves to finish with six total saves. The shutout is his second of the year and the school-record 16th of his career.
