Oskaloosa City Council approves committee appointments

Oskaloosa, Iowa- The Oskaloosa City Council met in regular session Tuesday evening. The meeting was the first for new council members Jason Van Zetten and Joe Caligiuri. As a part of the new council, the mayor recommend approval of several different committees, including City Council committees. The Council unanimously approved the following appointments: Mayor Pro-Tem: Doug Yates, Finance Committee: Doug Yates (Chair), Tom Jimenez, and Aaron Ver Steeg; Public Projects Committee: Aaron Ver Steeg (Chair), Joe Caligiuri, Tom Walling; Planning Committee: Scottie Moore (Chair), Jason Van Zetten, Joe Caligiuri; Public Safety Committee: Tom Walling (Chair), Jason Van Zetten, Scottie Moore; Emergency 911 Board : Tom Walling; Housing Trust Fund Committee: Joe Caligiuri; OACDG Board: Aaron Ver Steeg; MCRF Board: Scottie Moore; Joint County- Mahaska Disaster Services Board and Emergency Planning Administration: Aaron Ver Steeg; Joint Law Enforcement Center Board; Aaron Ver Steeg; and Mahaksa County Agency on Aging: Aaron Ver Steeg.

The final action the Council took was setting the January 16^th, 2012 City Council meeting as the date of public hearings on charges of selling tobacco to a minor. Two store locations were caught to be in violation of this in sting operations. Casey’s store #2366 at 1809 9^th Ave East and Kum and Go store #174 at 413 A Ave West were both caught to be in violation.

The next Oskaloosa City Council Meeting will be on January 16^th, 2012 at 6:30 PM in the City Council Chambers.
