Oskaloosa, Iowa – Former Speaker of the House, and Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich recently announced plans to make a campaign swing into Oskaloosa.

Oskaloosa is at the crossroads of politics over the decades when candidates would make their way into Stapp Drug, or McKee Coins and now mostly find their way into Pizza Ranch or Smokey Row.

Nik Rule, Newt Gingrich’s Mahaska County Chairman commented on his candidate of choice, “Today our country is in trying times, we have an economy that continues to flounder and budgets are tight for our schools, our businesses, and our families. We need common sense ideas and a leader that will be able to stand on stage with the President in front of the nation to effectively communicate that America is not on the right track. Speaker Gingrich has done this before with his “Contract with America” during the Clinton years. Under his leadership during that time Congress passed the first balanced budget in over a generation; getting Washington to do that today would be unheard of, but Newt has done it before and can do it again.”

The visit is planned to take places at Smokey Row on the west side of the square in Oskaloosa at 4:15 pm December 20th.

Rule went on to say “This will be a great opportunity for caucusgoers in Mahaska County to meet the smartest candidate in the race. With all the negative ads that we continue to see daily on our TV’s, Iowans have the unique opportunity to meet candidates face-to-face and this is great chance to meet Speaker Gingrich”.

Before arriving in Oskaloosa, he will be meetings with employees and touring the Al Jon Company in Ottumwa at 1:00 pm.

The Iowa Caucasus have several candidates crisscrossing the state in the final days before the all important first in the nation vote.
