Robert Moody
Robert Lavern Moody, 80, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born June 24, 1931, in Scott Township of Mahaska County, the son of Roland George and Eva Fern Lundy Moody. Early on he worked as a farm hand for various farmers. He then went to Kaisers and began running heavy equipment. On August 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Smith at Oskaloosa, Shirley died August 9, 1985. On June 1, 1958, Bob went to work for Mahaska County operating heavy equipment. He was a very skilled operator, especially at the controls of the motor grader. He retired from the county in 1993. For over 30 years he maintained the racing surface at the Southern Iowa Speedway grading and preparing the track for the races. Early on he enjoyed fishing, especially the trips to Minnesota, and hunting. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, he took many trips to the Mississippi River, Bagnell Dam and to Branson. He was always up for a good discussion, and was very quick to offer his views especially in the political arena.
His family includes his two children: Sandra Moody and Kenneth (& Jeannie) Moody all of Oskaloosa; two grandsons: Nathan Robert Moody and Aharon Richard Moody; three sisters: Mildred (& Arden) Wilson of Oskaloosa, Norma Jean (& Milo) Rice of Oskaloosa, and Marilyn Clark of Des Moines; two brothers: Marvin Moody of Eddyville, and Delbert (& Judy) Moody of Tracy; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Velma June Jones and Janice Moody; and a brother: Roland Moody.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jason Gutzmer officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:00 -8:00 to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House.
