Penn Students Enjoy International Cuisine
Oskaloosa, Iowa – With the bustling of last minute preparations, the United World Club held their International Buffet Lunch Wednesday. The lunch was scheduled to start at 11:00 am and would continue until 1:30 pm in the Chief Mahaska Room located in the Dana Atkins Memorial Union on the campus of William Penn University.
“The fundraising lunch is a highlight of International Education Week,” said Karolyn Wojtowicz, co-advisor for United World Club at William Penn. The group made dishes that represented the home countries of students who are currently part of William Penn. Chick Pea Salad (Egypt), Chinese Fried Rice, as well as dishes from Venezuela, along with Rwanda Rolls and many others were all prepared.
The club will have held five events by weeks end, starting off on Monday with two events, one of them being a poster display, the luncheon on Wednesday, as well as an International Chapel Service. Thursday evening brings a film on South Sudan.
The group sold 80 tickets for the Buffet, with the proceeds going towards the Model United Nations Trip to New York in April. “We will be representing William Penn University for the first time in joining over 5,000 college students from around the United States and from around the world to participate in a mock United Nations model effort, to try and understand more about international diplomacy,” Wojtowicz said about the how the money raised will be used.
Omaira Gibens, adviser for the club, spearheaded the food portion for Wednesday’s event.
